How long have you been a RiseUp Partnership Board member?

I joined in 2016!

What drew you to RiseUp Partnership?

A close friend of mine was a social worker and original member of the organization. He passed away from cancer, and I heard about the impact he made on youth in our programs. This inspired me to get involved.

What’s your favorite RiseUp program or event?

Mentoring is my favorite program. I started as a Board member and was hesitant to also become a mentor because I thought it would be a substantial time commitment. There was an urgent need, so I signed up to mentor in 2019. It was the most rewarding experience, and I would highly recommend this to anyone considering getting involved. I was with my mentee for five years, and she graduated from high school and is excelling in a welding trade program.

Why do you think others should get involved in supporting the work of RiseUp Partnership?

Everyone has different talents and time constraints, but I would strongly encourage interested community members to reach out to a Board or staff member to discuss opportunities that would be a good fit.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Goodhue County?

There are two required stops that I recommend to Red Wing visitors. The first is the World’s Largest Boot at the flagship Red Wing Shoe store in downtown Red Wing. I was working for the company the day we installed the big boot in the store, and it was a very exciting moment. I also suggest a hike up He Mni Can (Barn Bluff). Both lookouts over the river valley are spectacular.
